Eligible voters urged to register this weekend

IEC in King Cetshwayo District urges eligible voters to register ahead of the November local government elections

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in King Cetshwayo District (KCD) says it is ready for voter registration this weekend, 20 and 21 June, with all stations open from 8am to 5pm.

According to IEC regional manager for KCD, Stella Dlamini, her office has conducted training for staff and political agents who will be observing the registration process.

“We are continuously engaging with SAPS to ensure safety and security of voters over the weekend,” said Dlamini.

In the region, two wards were added to uMhlathuze by the Demarcation Board, bringing the district to a total of 109 with 558 voting stations.

Leading the voters’ roll population at 207 530 is the City of uMhlathuze, followed by uMlalazi at 110 989, uMfolozi at 76 819, Nkandla at 64 451, and Mthonjaneni at 48 222, with a total of 508 011 for the region.

Dlamini encouraged eligible voters to register at a voting district as determined by their residential address.

“Voters to apply in a prescribed manner by submitting their green barcoded SA ID, valid temporary identity certificate or smart ID card, and provide a physical address. Voters must be 16 years and above, and must be a South African citizen,” said Dlamini.
