Curious Richards Bay cat takes a drive inside engine compartment

Owner finds cat hiding in engine compartment during drive to work

Driving to work on Wednesday morning, Birdswood resident Piet Calitz’s car was purring along nicely.
Until he and son, Dewald heard what they thought was a cat meowing.

By this time, having reached Essenwood Way in Arboretum, they stopped, and there it was again – the unmistakable sound of an unhappy feline, crying loudly.

A quick search soon revealed the noise was coming from Piet’s own cat, Jenny, who had climbed inside the engine compartment – probably for warmth – and accompanied them from their Birdswood home.

No amount of coaxing would get Jenny to leave her hiding place, and it was impossible to reach her as she eluded capture.

Being an engineer, Piet is never short of a solution, and a few sharp blasts on the hooter made Jenny realise she was better off out of hiding.

Back home, it was apparent she had suffered no burns or other harm and was soon enjoying her favourite munchies.

With another eight lives left, who knows what adventure awaits next?

By the way, Jenny is named after Piet’s favourite actress, Jennifer Aniston, but word is that they are just ‘Friends’!
