Disruptive rain warning for Zululand on Tuesday

Residents urged to exercise extreme caution as South African Weather Service issues level 2 and 4 warnings for KZN

Disruptive rains are expected over parts of KZN, including Zululand, from tomorrow (Tuesday) until Wednesday.

The SA Weather Service has issued a level 4 warning for uMhlathuze, Mtubatuba, Big Five Hlabisa, uMlalazi, Mandeni and Hluhluwe, among other areas.

“An upper trough situated over the western interior and a surface ridging high will result in widespread to scattered showers and thundershowers tomorrow (Tuesday), but isolated in the extreme north.

“These showers and thundershowers will result in disruptive rainfall with significant rainfall amounts in excess of 40mm from tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon into Wednesday morning,” the SAWS states.

The weather service has also issued a level 2 warning for disruptive rain in among other areas, Mthonjaneni and Nkandla.

“Disruptive rain leading to localised flooding of susceptible formal or informal settlements or roads, low-lying areas and bridges, minor motor vehicle accidents due to slippery roads, and reduced visibility is expected over the central parts of KZN tomorrow afternoon until evening,” SAWS states.

KZN Cogta has urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, avoid crossing flooded roads and rivers, and follow guidance from local authorities.
