Qhakaza High School principal Emmanuel Mbatha has welcomed a public-private partnership initiative aimed at improving learners’ access to information about careers that are in demand.

Mbatha was speaking during the school’s Grade 9 and 12 Career Expo, hosted by the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone at Vulindlela Community Hall on Tuesday (today).

He said learners from developing communities need greater exposure to technical and vocational education that equips them with the skills required for future employment opportunities.

Mbatha believes South Africa urgently needs a curriculum that better reflects the country’s economic realities and the evolving needs of industry.

“As a school, we appreciate the involvement of the private sector and the broader community in supporting programmes that benefit our learners.

“It is important that learners receive accurate career guidance so they can make informed choices about careers that will enable them to compete successfully in society,” he said.
