A KIND gesture on the part of a conservation-conscious Richards Bay resident has given a pair of spotted eagle owls a chance in life.
This after one of two eggs rescued from a spotted eagle owl nest in a Richards Bay garden last month has hatched, and the second one pipped, at a conservation centre near Pietermaritzburg.

The Richards Bay resident in whose garden the spotted eagle owls were nesting contacted the local SPCA for assistance after being accused of witchcraft.
Fearing for his own safety and not wanting any harm to come to the owls, a plan was hatched to remove the eggs and close up the nest.
The Richards Bay SPCA contacted the African Raptor Centre based at Tala Game Reserve, under whose expert care the eggs are now hatching.
