King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM) is again under pressure over its failure to maintain a reliable water supply, with residents in eight wards under uMlalazi Municipality left without following a burst pipe.

The outage has now stretched beyond 17 hours, affecting eShowe and surrounding areas.
KCDM, the region’s water service authority, said contractors were on site carrying out repairs to the damaged pipeline.

However, the municipality acknowledged that the repair work had been delayed by difficulties in sourcing the required spare parts.

The latest outage comes shortly after residents in Mtunzini endured almost a month without a reliable water supply, causing residents to question KCDM’s ability to maintain critical water infrastructure and respond timeously to service delivery failures.

In its latest update, KCDM estimated that the maintenance team would have completed the repairs by 2pm today (Tuesday), with water supply expected to resume thereafter.

However, the prolonged outage has once again left affected communities bearing the consequences of delays in repairing essential infrastructure.
