Free health screening in Richards Bay

Community invited to take advantage of the vital women's health service in Richards Bay this weekend

The annual free pap smear drive hosted by Dr Jayeshnee Moodley will be in Aquadene this Saturday from 9am – midday.

Hosting the event at the 3C Richards Bay venue, 32 Cyprus Walk in Aquadene, community members, as well as those from surrounding areas, are invited to take advantage of the vital women’s health service.

Community wellness services will also be available and provided by the Melomed Richards Bay team on site. LifeLine Zululand will also be offering emotional and wellness services.

The annual outreach has become an important initiative in the community, with Dr Moodley having conducted thousands of free screenings over the years, helping women access preventative healthcare and encouraging early detection and creating awareness on cervical cancer.

Dr Moodley said some of the most important appointments one will ever attend are the ones you feel perfectly healthy enough to skip.

“Routine women’s health check-ups can detect problems before they become serious, giving you the best chance of early treatment and long-term well-being,” she said.

“Whether it’s your pap smear, breast health, contraception review or a routine gynaecological examination, prevention is always better than cure.

“Your future self will thank you for taking your health checks; this Women’s Month we urge ladies to make their health a priority – not just for August, but all year round,” said Dr Moodley.

Women and men can also have their blood pressure and glucose levels checked at the drive, while medical personnel will be available to provide information and answer health-related questions.

Organisers have encouraged women to make use of the opportunity and to arrive early, as screenings will be done on a first come, first served basis.

The outreach is not only about screening, but also about creating awareness around the importance of women taking charge of their health and having regular preventative checks.

Women are encouraged to spread the word and bring along a friend, sister, mother or daughter.
