Widows in Nkandla receive major boost
More than 14 co-operatives run by widows in Nkandla in KZN receive much-needed tools to boost their businesses
Nkandla Municipality equipped widows with essential items to help them support their families.
Led by Mayor Nonhlanhla Nzuza, the programme was held at Nkandla Indoor Sports Centre on Monday.
More than 14 co-operatives run by widows from wards 1, 4, 5, 6 and 11 received various working equipment and seed to start and improve their businesses.
“These tools of trade would assist widows to be self-sustainable and able to fend for themselves. We know they are raising their children alone; they also have the huge responsibility of ensuring their families are taken care of,” she said.
Nzuza also committed to handing over such equipment to other widows from other wards.
“In March, we developed and approved a programme specifically to address challenges faced by widows to capacitate them to ensure they can fend for themselves and their families,” she said.
