Multiple people injured in separate collisions in Richards Bay and Empangeni

Several people are believed to have been injured in separate accidents on the R34 John Ross highway between Richards Bay and Empangeni this (Monday) morning.

One person sustained minor injuries when a bakkie and truck collided at the Alton intersection.

According to reports from the scene, police officers and civilians helped rescue the bakkie driver who was trapped and visibly shaken following the collision.

Meanwhile, an unconfirmed number of patients were transported to Ngwelezana Hospital by KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services (KZN EMS) ambulances and private vehicles following a further two separate collisions on the R34 between Nkwalini and Empangeni.

The crashes reportedly occurred near the first roadwork stop-and-go point, with some construction workers also believed to have been injured.

Further details about the incidents and the extent of the injuries were still being established at the time of going to print.
