Driving schools and community members would previously travel to Richards Bay, Empangeni, Mtubatuba and Hluhluwe to access these services.
“When we entered office, one of our priority projects was to ensure this DLTC was functioning, because it was built but failed to meet certain operational requirements,” said uMfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu.
He noted the facility would also strengthen the municipality’s revenue collection capacity, reducing its reliance on government grants to deliver services.
Zanele Ndlovu of WeNdlovu Driving School said this would significantly reduce her company’s operational costs.
Echoing this sentiment, Hlabisa-Mtuba Driving Schools Association chairperson Oscar Sithole said locals would benefit greatly.
“Driving schools will save on fuel costs, as it’s currently too costly for their operations,” he said.
