WE have received numerous complaints from guests at our lodge and other visitors to St Lucia regarding the signage from the N2 to iSimangaliso Wetland Park and St Lucia town.
During the day, the sign opposite the goat sellers at Mtubatuba, directing traffic east towards St Lucia on the R618, is barely visible. The sign is old and the print on it has faded.
At night it does no longer reflects light, so it is completely invisible.
Most travellers coming off the N2 towards Mtubatuba (T-junction at Pick n Pay) and at the goat sellers end up travelling towards Umfolozi Sugar Mill or towards Hlabisa/Hluhluwe as they cannot see the R618 sign directing them towards St Lucia.
We have guests arriving very late at night because they were driving around looking for directions. They are very vulnerable to attacks in the dark, especially if they stop and ask for directions.
As most of these are foreign guests and language is often a problem, it is very difficult to direct them telephonically when they keep on missing this road.
We would appreciate it if this matter can be addressed by the relevant authorities without any further delay.
