I AM a tenant in a well-known secure complex in Richards Bay.
However, I am now forced to look for alternative accommodation because the complex has become more of a retirement village than family-oriented.
Recently various rules have been passed on to occupants which seem focused on getting rid of families with children.
The rules include the following:
· Children are not allowed to play ball games.
· Children are not allowed to ride bicycles.
· Children are not allowed to play on common property.
As the units and courtyards are quite small, it is almost impossible to keep children entertained in such confined spaces – except if left in front of the television.
We have specifically chosen this complex as it is safe and has enough green areas for children to move around freely and safely.
I have not seen any unruly or badly behaved children in the complex, but perhaps I am more tolerant since I do have children of my own.
Surely grandparents who live in the complex can appreciate the noise levels generated by children at play?
Most tenants in secure complexes are families with children. Parents work long hours and sometimes shifts.
Unfortunately Richards Bay is not known for their parks anymore and we do not have the capacity in our busy schedules to take our children somewhere else to play, other than at home.
This issue has left many occupants in the complex frustrated and feeling victimised.
It feels as if owners and trustees make rules by will, without considering occupants at all.
Is this the norm in other complexes in Richards Bay? I do not want to put my children through this frustration again.
