Anglers miffed about rude treatment

The manner in which we were spoken to by these men was utterly disgusting

A GROUP of friends and I recently undertook an overnight fishing expedition at the Richards Bay south pier around 8pm.

We set up base near the boom gate entrance on the surf.

Not long after two males approached us in a very rude manner. One said, ‘I don’t want to take any permits away, but I have two problems – you are not allowed to park on the right hand side and firearms are not allowed (the ‘firearm’ was an air gun, which we explained to them).

They said they were members of the Richards Bay Harbour Personnel Angling Club (RBHPAC) committee.

We apologised for our mistake and moved our vehicles to the left hand side.

At around 4am another man approached us and arrogantly requested my permit, with supporting tickets for the gentlemen that I had brought in.

I supplied him with the documentation on which no discrepancies were found.

He told us there was a fishing competition on the pier starting at 5am and we had five minutes to pack up and leave.
We agreed to leave south pier, but my permit was held back by the man.

The manner in which we were spoken to by these men was utterly disgusting.

I guess being part of the ‘old boys club’ is equally important to having unprecedented access to south pier.

The club (RBHPAC) does not conduct internal matters in the media.

The writer is welcome to approach the committee with his concerns, however the writer did not comply with the club rules and should accept responsibility.
