Top talent available for local cricket squad

RH Construction uThungulu cricket team upbeat about new season.

THE RH Construction uThungulu cricket team have been putting in the hard yards in the nets in preparation for the upcoming 2014/15 Premier League season.

The team will take on Pinetown in a friendly 20/20 clash on Saturday, 20 September and a 50 over game the following day at Addison Park, Empangeni as a build-up to the start of the new season.

The local outfit will take on Chatsworth United at Addison Park on 28 September in their first league game of the season.

The 50 over season ends on 1 March, with the 20/20 competition following on 8 March.

The squad is excited about this season, as new sponsors have got on board, as well as new talent joining the ranks.

RH Construction is the main sponsor for the season, with uMfolozi Casino, Alpha Panelbeaters, ABI Richards Bay, PG Glass, Zululand Observer, CSI Electrical, Zululand Refrigeration, RIS Vehicle Hire and Swanlite also providing support.

The team signed Dolphins all-rounder Robbie Frylink and will welcome batsmen/bowler Garry Park (ex- England professional), batsmen Jason Reddinger (Tuks High Performance), bowler Kyle Abbott (Dolphins/Proteas) and bowler Darryn Dupavillon (Dolphins).

To top this, batsmen and captain Eugene Zwart (South Africa Rural Cricket Association), all-rounder Neill Jordan (SARCA), batsmen Stephan Joubert (England county cricket) and batsmen Johnny Riekert (KZN Academy) will also play for the side.

‘We are very blessed with the sponsors coming to the party this year. We must also thank McCarthy Toyota who have sponsored us for the past few seasons. We aim to finish in the top three in the 50 over competition and to make the final of the 20/20 competition this season,’ said Manager Fuzzy van Aswegen.

Park will coach the team, Eugene Zwart will captain the side and Fuzzy van Aswegen will take up the Manager’s role.

Local players in in the Saturday League who believe they are good enough to play for the uThungulu team, are urged to inform their captain and join practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Addison Park, or contact Fuzzy on 083 7571333.
