Esikhaleni takes the Bozas Cup
Esikhaleni progress from plate to cup as they win the 69th Flya Sportswear Bozas Rugby Cup.
THOSE who have followed the Bozas Cup rugby tournament over the past few years will have noted how the so-called ‘development’ rugby teams have been improving.
This year saw one of the teams, Esikhaleni, win the tournament in no uncertain way when they played Mandeni in the final after finishing top of their group will a bag full of wins.
Playing with heart and passion, the outfit outplayed Mandeni in most of phases of the game with hard running and determined tackling, making them deserved winners.
In third place and winning the Johan Bezuidenhout Plate were last year’s champions and hosts of the tournament, eShowe who beat Hluhluwe in a tight game.
The Paul Nunan Bowl was won by Richards Bay A who beat Empangeni.
Eight teams participated in the tournament, with four teams not being able to field a side.
The Green Bottle Ballies, who have become an institution of the Bozas Cup, were missed as were Melmoth, Mtubatuba and Shaka Warriors.
It was a great tournament which produced some outstanding individual and team performances.
The organisors are already discussing next year’s tournament which will mark the Bozas Cup’s 70th year.
Barry Neville of Flya Sportswear has also committed his support to the tournament for the next three years.
