Among the sporting codes that young people were competing in were football, both men and women, boxing, netball and chess.

“These games help us discover talent and keep youth engaged in sport, steering them away from substance abuse and towards becoming disciplined ambassadors for Nkandla,” said Nzuza.

She added that the reception was positive from the youth wanting to take part in the event.

Fans came out in numbers to support

Having come out to scout talent, Amazulu FC U13 coach Phumelele ‘Ace’ Bhengu said they identified a few individuals with the potential to be selected.

“I believe that through coaching clinics, the municipalities would have invested in perfect football development for the upcoming youngsters, making it easy for talent to be counted for clubs such as Amazulu FC or even Richards Bay FC,” said Bhengu.

The event was attended by KZN Premier Thami Ntuli, King Cetshwayo District Mayor Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, and other mayors and their deputies from the region, as well as councillors.
