WATCH: Rich Boyz are the ‘raining’ champs in Richards Bay

NRB sit at position 8 on the PSL log going into Saturday’s match against Mamelodi Sundowns

Not even Elvis and torrential rain could come between Richards Bay and a 1-0 victory over Magesi FC at the uMhlathuze Stadium on Wednesday night.

The game was played in terrible conditions, with standing water on parts of the field after over 50mm fell in the CBD during the hours preceding the game.

Full marks to the match commissioner for going ahead with the Betway Premiership fixture, which proved a good decision as the rain subsided in the second half and the field drained well.

Kudos also to the few hundred diehard fans who put up with the elements to cheer on the Rich Boyz, who put up a terrific show on the night.

They are on a super streak at the moment, unbeaten in their last 5 games, with two wins in a row following the victory over Stellenbosch on Saturday.

They now sit at position 8 on the PSL log going into Saturday’s match against Mamelodi Sundowns, who looked well below par going down 1-0 to Golden Arrows on Wednesday afternoon.

But back to the Magesi game, where NRB mastered the conditions and as a collective played with an intensity that matched the ferocious conditions.

Tlakusani Mthethwa ran his socks off to win the Man of the Match award, but not far behind were Siyabonga Nzama and Lindokuhle Zikhali, who combined to create the 76th minute goal that gained the three points, as the former’s superb cross was met with the perfectly placed header by Zikhali.

NRB should have scored a bunch more goals as Nzama, Zikhali, Gabadinho Mhango and Wandile Ngema either came close or were denied by Elvis Chipezeze in the Magesi goalmouth.

And it was another clean sheet to chalk up as skipper Simphiwe Mcineka managed the defence strongly, with Sbani Mntungwa steadily making a name for himself in general play and transition.

On present form, there’s no need to fear the Brazillians on Saturday.
