Mixed T20 bag for King Cetshwayo cricketers

KCCD cricketers enjoy morning win but stumble in afternoon at KZNCU Premier League Men's T20

ONCE again, it was mixed fortunes for the Mancosa KCCD cricketers as they contested a Castle KZNCU Premier League Men’s T20 double header on Saturday.

They were off to a cracking start as they took on the highly rated Rhythm DHSOB side in the morning game, which was reduced to 10 overs due to inclement weather.

Batting first, the Zulus were in trouble with 2 wickets down and only 6 runs on the board, but skipper Rikus Zwart and Dewald Wessels took control with a lightning 93-run partnership.

Zwart bludgeoned his way to 47 runs from 26 balls, clearing the ropes no fewer than 6 times before being run out.

But he had done a magnificent job to give KCCD a chance for the win, especially as Wessels also laid into the bowlers on his way to an undefeated 42 runs off 26 balls, the side ending on 107/3.

Kershan Purathom fared best with the ball for DHSOB, snaring two wickets for 12 runs.

Tight bowling and good fielding restricted the fancied opposition batting lineup to 97/3 in their response, despite good knocks from Zaahid Mahomed (45 off 25) and Uvir Maharaj (30 off 22), but with Marc Shorkend, Kyle Britz and Rikus Zwart each claiming a wicket, KCCD pulled off a great 10-run win.

The afternoon game against Amanzimtoti, where improved weather allowed the full 20 overs to be played, saw KCCD fail with the bat as they could only muster 83/7 at the end of their allotted overs.

Liam Kench, with 36 off 41 balls and Darryl Hattingh with 14, were the only batters to show resistance against the likes of NK Gumede, who impressed with three wickets for only two runs in four overs, and Jarryd Michaux (2/19).

The low target would prove no difficulty for the Toti batsmen, who needed just 12.3 overs to cruise to an easy 8-wicket victory.
KCCD Vets win easily

It was smooth sailing for the Mancosa KCCD vets as their bowlers dismantled Toti CC 2, dismissing them for a measly 46 all out, with Martin Ball’s undefeated 18 the only real contribution.

They had no answer to the three-pronged attack from Charl Groenewald (3/11), Siya Ndwandwe (2/12) and Gerson Govender (2/8) and all were back in the hut after only 12.3 overs.

KCCD Vets managed to get one T20 game done over the weekend: (back) Daryl Hattingh, Alex Olivier, Gerson Govender, Charl Groenewald, Kuban Gounden, Ruhan Kruger, Siya Ndwandwe; (front) Stephan Joubert, Simon Savides, Gary Bishop, Chad Neuhoff (captain), and Ron Harrison

Wanting an early trip back to Empangeni, KCCD wasted no time in the chase, achieving a 7-wicket win in only 4.5 overs.

Ruhan Kruger led the way with 18 runs, and Ronald Harrison with 10, as both were undefeated when the tally was achieved in 4.5 overs.

The KCCD women saw rain put an end to their T20 game against African Warriors, with their score on 53/5 called off with Michalo Andrews looking good on 19 not out.
