Women’s sport development takes centre stage at netball cup

KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s Netball Cup to be hosted at the Manguzi Multi-purpose Centre in uMhlabuyalingana

Women’s sport development is firmly in the spotlight this week as the KwaZulu-Natal Premier’s Netball Cup 2026 kicks off, offering a powerful platform to grow grassroots netball and showcase the province’s emerging female talent.

The tournament, which runs from Thursday to Sunday, will be hosted at the Manguzi Multi-purpose Centre in uMhlabuyalingana under uMkhanyakude District, where teams from across KZN will compete in what promises to be an exciting and competitive showcase of netball excellence.

Momentum ahead of the event gathered pace today (Monday) following the successful live draw, attended by KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli, Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Mtomuhle Khawula, KZN Sports Confederation president Thami Mchunu, and KZN Netball president Gugu Ngema.

The live draw marked a key milestone in the build-up to the competition, reinforcing transparency and fairness as teams finalise preparations.

The tournament will feature district-based teams from across the province, underlining the depth of talent and the strength of netball structures in KZN.

Beyond competition, the KZN Premier’s Netball Cup serves as a strategic vehicle to promote women’s sport, strengthen development pathways, and enhance competitive netball at grassroots and elite levels.

Organisers expect the event to unite communities, districts and stakeholders in celebration of excellence, unity and sporting pride.

All participating teams have been urged to uphold the values of sportsmanship, discipline and respect as they compete for top honours.
