Letter from the Parents of a Grade 12 pupil

‘We are so grateful to all of the Felixton College teachers and staff for the heartfelt love and dedication towards the learners and specifically, in our case, Michael Focke.
The fruit of his efforts were made possible in this caring, daring and encouraging environment where he grew up for the last five years. The bubbly introduction to the school,
from the Front Office, was the first encounter that showed that the content of the picture, the human relationships we would get from Felixton College, would be the norm and
the pattern for the rest of Michael’s stay at this special school. May Felixton College continue to be a place of excellence in education and character development. God bless.

LEGACY OF THE LOUWS

Este, Retief and Murray

It is very rare that a school encounters a family with three children as gifted as Este, Murray and Retief Louw and Felixton College was blessed to have them join our family, from 2009. Hailing from Hluhluwe, this humble and gracious family attributes the academic, leadership and sporting successes to the very strong (and evident) presence of God in their lives, however they also played their part and gave 200% in everything to which they set their minds.

Este was Head Girl and Dux in 2013 and achieved a Cum Laude pass with 9 distinctions, coming in the top 5% in the country and earning the Top Matriculant spot in Zululand. Este is currently working in Occupational Therapy in Pietermaritzburg She came 1st in class and was awarded academic honours every year, at Stellenbosch University. Este received the Rectors Award for Academics at the end of her 4 years and to top it all, Este was named ‘Best Occupational Student’ in theory and in practical and the Top student in the Medical Faculty in her final year.

Murray was Head Boy and Dux in 2015, achieved 8 A’s (a Cum Laude pass with a personal average of 92% and was the top student in Zululand). Murray earned a string of prestigious awards at Stellenbosch University and passed his Bachelor of Engineering Degree, Cum Laude. Murray was named ‘Best Mechanical Engineering’ student over the 4 year course, passing all of his modules Cum Laude. This guy also knows how to play hard and have fun as well. He played 2nd league res rugby (koshuisrugby) for his residence, Eendrag and they won their league last year. Both Este and Murray are actively involved in social work in the form of outreaches and missions and have developed a heart for outreach into Africa and India.

Just when Felixton College thought it could not get any better, along came baby brother Retief and he has proved, with his outstanding results, that he is also a force with which to be reckoned. Retief served as Head Boy and played 1st team rugby and hockey. Retief was also the Senior Victor Ludorum Athletic Trophy winner. In short, he is a well rounded, all-rounder. Retief is following in his siblings’ footsteps and is going to Stellenbosch University to study Mechatronic Engineering.

Welcome to Wayne Rademan,
the new Headmaster of Felixton College.

Helen, Daniel and Wayne Rademan

Mr Rademan grew up in KwaZulu-Natal as a young boy and moved down to the Eastern Cape as a teenager. After school he graduated from the University of Port Elizabeth, now Nelson Mandela University, with a Bachelor of Education Degree majoring in English, Mathematics and Geography. He has taught at Dale College in King Williams Town, Westering High School in Port Elizabeth and Woodridge College in the Eastern Cape.

Besides being a wonderful teacher, Mr Rademan has coached rugby and athletics at the highest school level. In 2014 Mr Rademan joined Felixton College as the Head of English and soon made his way up the leadership ladder to become the Deputy Headmaster, responsible for the academic programme in the High School. He is much loved by the students, staff and parents. “We are most fortunate to have a leader of Mr Rademan’s quality to step into the breech and lead the College into the next phase of its growth”.

Mr Rademan is a loyal family man who is totally committed to education and serving the school. His wife, Helen, is also a teacher at Felixton College and his young son, Daniel, will be attending the Pre-School in Grade RRRR.

Message from Felixton College Headmaster, Mr Wayne Rademan

The School Council, Management and Staff are delighted with the Grade 12, Independent Examinations Board, National Senior Certificate results. 89% of the 36 candidates achieved Bachelor Degree passes.
The high number of our children who now have the option of gaining access to tertiary institutions, should they wish to do so, is testament to the concerted efforts that are made in the classrooms by both our pupils and their teachers.
Felixton College takes pride in providing an environment that is conducive to developing children and young adults who are hard-working, well-adjusted and confident.
There are a number of outstanding personal achievements, of which we are exceptionally proud.

These results not only include our top achievers but also a number of candidates who worked diligently to achieve results that reflect their potential and ability.

Mbalenhle Shandu and Michael Focke also produced outstanding achievements, obtaining 6 A’s each and both missing out on a full house of A’s with 79% in a 7th subject, respectively. Mbalenhle averaged 90% for her set of results and was placed in the top 1% of IEB candidates for English Home Language and Life Orientation, while Michael averaged 88% and was placed in the top 1% of IEB candidates for Life Orientation.

From a holistic, educational point of view, we are also proud of all of our children who pass through our classrooms and enter society as humble, caring and honourable citizens who think critically and engage with integrity”.
On behalf of all the management and staff, we congratulate our matrics on their personal achievements and respective roads travelled.
We also take this opportunity to wish them well for future challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We have no doubt that they are prepared for a dynamic society, in which they will not only make positive contributions, but also thrive.
