Budler title fight live on TV

SA boxer, Hekkie Budler takes on Pigmy Kokietgym from Thailand.

BOXING fans will be happy to know that Hekkie Budler’s title fight in Monte Carlo will be broadcast live on SuperSport tonight.

The South African is scheduled to make the second defence of his WBA and IBO minimumweight titles. He faces a challenge from the experienced Pigmy Kokietgym from Thailand.

The 26-year-old Budler turned professional in July 2007 and since then he has put together a record of 25-1, including 8 wins inside the distance.

In his past three fights Budler beat the highly rated Nkosinathi Joyi on points and stopped Hugo Verchelli and Karluis Diaz.

Saturday’s challenge in Monaco, however, will be only his third outside South Africa and it is likely to be a tough one.

Budler’s opponent, the 32-year-old Kokietgym, has been boxing as a professional for 15 years and has a record 52-6-2, with 22 shortcut victories. He has lost only once in his past 42 fights and is the WBC Asian Boxing Council minimumweight champion.

There is little difference in height and reach between the two, but the Thai is more experienced than Budler.

The Golden Gloves Promotions tournament will be televised on SuperSport 7 and HD 7, starting at 7.30 pm (SA, CAT, GMT+2).
