A CHRISTIAN-BASED radio station was launched on Friday, 14 November and it is already proving popular amongst its listeners.
Operating on 89 FM and named Ulundi Nguna, the station plays mainly gospel music and is on air 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
News is broadcast on the hour, every hour between 6am and 6pm on Mondays to Friday.
An hour of current affairs is broadcast between 6pm and 7pm.
The station has a 80/20 ratio between isiZulu and English.
Founder of the station, Pastor Mncube, has been grooming the staff, including DJs, since May this year.
The station’s footprint with the existing transmitter is Ulundi, Nongoma, eShowe, Empangeni, Hlabisa, Melmoth, Mtubatuba and Richards Bay.
According to PR Manager Sbonelo Mvubu, a more powerful transmitter is expected to arrive from Germany and this will increase the station’s footprint.
Residents from Jozini, Pongola, Ballito and Dundee should then be able to tune in.
Mvubu says they are broadcasting from a temporary studio at present and will be moving to permanent premises in the new year.
They are presently at 129 Mkabayi Street, Ulundi (opposite the new long distance taxi rank) and can be contacted on 035 8700054.
