WATCH: Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls puts on a grand spectacle as Zambezi River floods
Another wave of flooding is expected in the coming days
IN what is thought to be the biggest flood of the Zambezi River since 1977/78, Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls is looking grander than ever.
The only downside is that this has come amid the coronavirus shutdown of international borders, meaning no tourists and only a handful of locals will witness this spectacle.
According to nature writer Peter Frost, a second wave of flooding is set to flow through Chavuma on the Angola/Zambia border in the coming days, which looks set to be as big as the first wave of flooding.
An already-bursting Victoria Falls will carry the flood and fill Lake Kariba.
Frost has predicted this to be the biggest flood since the Kariba dam wall floods of 1958.
A video of the mighty Victoria Falls was captured by Frost on 30 March, it has since gone viral as people around the world share this slice of good news.
Victoria Falls is one of the seven wonders of the world and is said to be Africa’s greatest wonder.
In the wet season, Victoria Falls is the largest waterfall in the world and people who live around it call it Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning ‘smoke that thunders’.
