Festive season brings hope and dignity for destitute

Festive spirit of giving brings new home to Khumalo family

CHRISTMAS came early for the Khumalo family when they received a fully-furnished home this week.

The donation was made to the single-headed household in the Zonyama area by the IFP uPhongolo constituency. This was part of its festive season outreach programme aimed at assisting vulnerable community members.

The house was constructed through donations sourced by the party under the leadership of uPhongolo Mayor Bheki Thwala, working alongside party volunteers and the Ward 14 councillor.

Speaking during the handover, Thwala said he was deeply moved after assessing the family’s living conditions.

“When it rains, the situation becomes worse. This initiative aligns with the party’s manifesto, which seeks emancipation and independence for our people,” he said.

An emotional Gogo Khumalo struggled to contain her gratitude, describing the donation as life-changing.

“Today, there is no rain formed against me. I am truly thankful. I also thank the community because today you have been spared the shame of hearing that I died due to my house collapsing on me,” she said.

The donation included groceries for the family.
