Making a math-ive difference

Local mathematics tutor and teacher Professor Khangelani Wilmoth Sibiya is proud to be the recipient of the Best Teacher of the Year 2019: South Africa award. He received this award late last year during a glamorous awards ceremony in Dubai, hosted by AKS Global Education.
‘I felt so honoured, humbled and grateful for this recognition. This is the second global award that I received,’ said Mr Sibiya.

‘This will motivate me to keep on working very hard for my country in order to change the stigma that maths and science are the hardest subjects.

In previous years, Sibiya also won a SA Men of the Year Award in the Education category. These awards aimed at honouring men who make a difference.

Sibiya heads WTS Tutoring, an NPO project which assists KZN schools in maths and science.

Sibiya has revolutionised maths education in KZN with his unique approach towards this difficult subject.

He brings in song and dance to turn maths into something that ordinary learners can relate to.

His students have been so inspired by his teachings that they have given him the titles Babes we Maths, Dr Maths, Usolwazi and Mr KWV (his presentation is smooth and sweet like KWV wine).
