Zodwa Khuzwayo

Journey to good health
A 52-year-old teacher from eShowe has a new lease on life after being treated by Melomed cardiologist Dr Sizwe Mthiyane.
In 2019, Zodwa Khuzwayo sought the help of Dr Mthiyane when she experienced trouble breathing. She could hardly walk a few steps before being exhausted, and Dr Mthiyane diagnosed it as a heart condition named dilated cardiomyopathy.
Dr Mthiyane and the team at Melomed performed a cardiac procedure on Khuzwayo’s heart and put her on a course of medication. After six months of being off sick from work, Khuzwayo’s condition improved.
‘It was a long process, but today I can honestly say that I am okay. I can breathe, I can do things that I haven’t been able to do for a long time and I can be physically active without having to stop frequently to catch my breath,’ she says.
‘I have to visit the hospital every six months for Dr Mthiyane to monitor my heart, but honestly, I have never felt better. I feel so alive!’
Khuzwayo adds, ‘God used Dr Mthiyane to heal me, and for that I am very grateful. If it wasn’t for him, I would not have been alive today.
‘I thank God, Dr Mthiyane and Melomed Hospital. Because of the love I received from the hospital, my family and my church, I am well today. They all played a vital role in my healing. My church family prayed for me and motivated me not to give up and to believe that God would heal me,’ she says.
‘All the staff at Melomed were so good, caring and kind. They took good care of me, making sure I was okay. Dr Mthiyane is a fantastic cardiologist. He was patient and kind towards me. He took the time to explain everything and he visited me daily to check on my progress and motivate me.’
