Man found dead in Centurion manhole

Police said the body of an unknown man was found in a manhole in Centurion on Friday morning. Here is more information.

The body of an unknown man was found in a manhole in Centurion on Friday morning.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer  Grant  Giblin, divers from the Tshwane Water Policing and Diving Services and K9 Search and Rescue were deployed to Northern Farms, Erasmia to recover a body from a manhole.

“Assisted by WPDS, Shoshanguve and West Rand K9 teamed up with high angle rope rescue techniques lowering a member into the manhole to retrieve the body of an unknown man. ”

He said a farm worker discovered the body.

“The circumstances as to how the victim ended up in the uncovered manhole are uncertain and will be investigated by Erasmia SAPS.”

Meanwhile, in other news, Tshwane firefighters were still on Thursday evening trying to control several destructive fires reported on small holdings and fields across Pretoria.

According to reports on social media, fires were reported in Witpoort, Tierpoort, and large parts of Pretoria East.

The SA Weather Services (SAWS) issued a warning for veld fires in and around Pretoria on Thursday.

It furthermore said fires may develop and spread rapidly resulting in damage to property, loss of grazing land and possible loss of human and/or animal life.
