Xolani Vonya from KwaThema was elected as president of Easterns Cricket Union

KwaThema – Xolani Vonya, the youngest and first black president of the Easterns Cricket Union, was elected at their special general meeting.

The KwaThema resident started his cricket journey at the KwaThema Cricket Club, where he became club chairperson in 2012/2013 and quickly moved to the board of directors as a result of his excellent administration.

Vonya has already set the strategic vision and plans for the union.

“I am proud that my roots as a young cricketer were shaped at the KwaThema Cricket Club, which helped me discover my potential to lead from a very young age. It happened through Mrs Ndala, who discovered me at the age of eight, together with Mr Thethe, the founder of KwaThema Cricket Club, and my coach, Mr Pekane, who continued to nurture my abilities,” says Vonya.

During his first speech as president, he asked that members use their diverse set of skills to ensure a culture of high standards and accountability.
