Citizens’ arrest

A man was arrested while hiding in the water at Sarel Cilliers Park.

This man and two others tried to break in at a house in President Street, Paul Krugersoord on Monday just before 10am.

According to police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, the three broke open a gate and tried to gain entry through a window of the house with the occupants still inside the house.

“A man and woman inside the house heard the noise and ran outside, just to find two of them still standing inside the yard. The man caught one, but the other one ran away,” says Capt Ramphora.

While the woman chased after him, a Springs North Community Police Sector Forum (CPSF) vehicle drove past and saw the ordeal.

The Springs North CPSF contacted the police.

“This man was standing in the water and could not get out, as we surrounded the small pond behind Hoërskool Hugenote,” says Marie van Zyl, secretary of the Springs North CPSF.

Capt Ramphora says the police arrived on the scene shortly after a citizens’ arrest was made and the man was taken into custody.

He, as well as his accomplices, are being held at the Springs police cells and he will appear in court soon.
