A mother is looking for assistance after her home burned down in Daggafontein on August 15, destroying everything inside.

Vuyiseka Machoba (32) was out with a friend to celebrate her birthday on Friday, but the following day, her happiness was cut short when she found out her shack was on fire.

“My friend and I happened to come back late from celebrating my birthday, so we decided to sleep over at her place because it was too late to travel back home.

“I had left my children at my mother’s place. On Saturday, I got a call from my brother telling me that the shack was on fire,” she said.

Machoba recalled how community members tried to put out the fire, but the water wasn’t enough to save her possessions.

“At that point all the furniture had already burned; my children’s uniform, birth certificates, our clothes, everything was already destroyed,” Machoba said.

She is a mother to five children and has pleaded with the community to assist in any way they can.

“My children did not go to school today (August 17) because they don’t have uniforms. I would appreciate assistance to get them uniforms and also get their birth certificates,” she said.
