Kofifi dancers to China
Cancer City Casting Kofifi Dance Group flew to China on Monday and will be back on Sunday.
The group, originating from Bluegumview in Duduza, has young and talented members between 12 and 28 years old. The group consists of members from the child-headed families and for some of them life has never been easy as they have been raised by unemployed and single parents.
The group’s managing director and the choreographer, Solly Malebana says their love for dancing was inspired by an escalating number of criminal activities that young people get involved in and their door to escape from such behaviour was to keep themselves busy at all times.
The group last year competed on one of the biggest TV talent search shows “South Africa’s got talent” and was one of the groups that was voted out from the competition before the semi finals.
Not winning the competition’s grand prize did not demotivate the group as they kept pushing and doing what they love the best.
“We did not believe it when the SA’s got talent invited us for yet another audition,” says Solly.
He says they were surprised when they were told that they are one of the 10 groups that will audition for the opportunity to showcase their talent on a Global Gala Spring Festival in China.
“We did our best to show the judges the talent that exists in Kwatsaduza and our group was chosen as one of the two groups to represent South Africa at the festival,” says an excited Solly.
Jabulani Lebeea (12) hopes that showing the world their talent will open doors to a better education for them. Jabulani believes that they can make a career out of their talent, however, he says education is the master key to a brighter future.
The group appeals for sponsorship and thanks Francina Malebana and Pat Dovola Mabena for always being there for them. If you are willing to sponsor the group, contact Solly Malebana on 072 570 4969 or email him on directorsolly@gmail.com
