The differences between tuck shop owners in Everest, one a Somali and the other an Ethopian, resulted in the death of a mother and her child.
According to Springs Police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora it is alleged that the victim, who is the tuck shop owner and the husband of the deceased, put a shop container next to the shop owned by one of the suspects.
He says the information that the police have states that the suspect warned the victim and demanded that he remove his tuck shop container, claiming that he was trying to steal his customers.
While the victim was busy removing the container, the suspect arrived on the scene and fired shots.
The victim ran for his life and hid under the car in which his wife and a one-year-old child were.
Capt Ramphora says it is alleged that the suspect then turned the gun on the wife and child, shooting them. They were declared dead at the Far East Rand Hospital on their arrival.
Police have been looking for the suspect and three suspects were arrested in the Johannesburg CBD by the Hillbrow Police on Tuesday. The suspects were later transferred to the Springs holding cells and are expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon for murder.
