The incident took place on New Year’s day at Jacob’s Farm. According to Springs Police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the suspect demanded that his girlfriend’s parents let her go with him to his house. He says things turned bad when the girlfriend’s father chased him away, refusing to let his daughter go with him.
Capt Ramphora says the suspect left the scene and the family thought the drama was over, only realising few minutes later that the fight was still on when the suspect came back firing shots at them using a pump gun.
The father was shot and died on the scene while the other family members were fortunate to come out alive with no injuries. Capt Ramphora says the suspect, who was in possession of a pump gun and six bullets, was arrested on Friday and is facing a charge of murder.
