Since the passing away of her nephew in 2011, life became even more difficult for the senior citizen from Tsakane. Gogo Moagi lost her mobility in 1997 after she fell and broke her right thigh. The incident forced her to be in a wheelchair as the doctors told her that she was never going to be able to walk again.
She has lived alone in her four-roomed RDP house since the death of her nephew until last year when she invited two young people to stay with her, fearing for her safety.
Moagi depends on her pension grant which she says is not enough to meet all her monthly needs. Because the youths that live with gogo also need to feed and look after their families, they opened a street corner tuck shop to be able to make ends meet.
Despite Moagi still being able to do the easy daily house chores such as sweeping the floor, her life becomes difficult when it rains, especially when she needs to go to the outside toilet during a rainy day..
“At times I have to use a bucket because going to an outside toilet does not only become difficult because I fear to be wet but because my wheelchair struggles to move because of the mud,” sadly says Moagi.
She says having a toilet inside her house will make her life easier. Adding that starting a day is also another struggle as her mobility inside her bedroom using her wheelchair is limited due to the size of the room.
To make life more comfortable and much enjoyable, Moagi also needs assistance to extend her bedroom so that she can look forward to the start of a new day just like all other senior citizens.
If you are willing to help Moagi by building her an inside toilet or extending her bedroom, you should contact her on 073 500 2273.
