Development in ward 77
Residents in ward 77 confirm that they do not only hear about development but they see it.
This comes after 16 roads that were under construction in different sections in ward 77 were recently completed.
According to ward councillor, Wilson Busakwe, roads in his ward were not the only challenges that his people were facing. He says electricity and chemical toilets were also challenges.
About 188 families now have access to chemical toilets and there are street sky lights that each serve four and more streets within the Marikana informal settlement.
Busakwe says residents from Marikana will soon walk on the upgraded streets. He says in Extension 5, 265 RDP houses have electricity and that the roads will soon be tarred and streets officially named.
Clr Busakwe promised residents of ward 77 he would continue working towards meeting their needs and delivering to the community. Sesi Mphila, an Extension 5 resident, could not hide her excitement as she now lives in a house with electricity.
“Our children have been struggling to read and do their homework as they all depended on candles,” says an excited Mphila. She continues to say that after a month of having electricity their lives have changed for the best. “We do not worry about house fires caused by candles,” she concludes.
