According to the Springs Police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the rapist from GugulethuEverest raped a 17-year-old girl in July last year.
Ramphora says Qayi and his friend offered to accompany the victim and her friend as they were walking on the street alone during the afternoon.
He says, according to the information that the police have, the suspects dragged the victims to their shack where they raped them. He says the police are still looking for the second suspect. Qayi was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison for rape which will run concurrently with a one-year sentence for assault.
