Damaged street causes difficult access

The damaged street in KwaThema Extension two makes it difficult for two families to get access into their homes.

According to ward councillor, Wilson Busakwe the street was first damaged in 2012, allegedly due to heavy rain and lightning, when the street was divided into two pieces.

He says the metro was informed about the matter and the street was fixed.

However after a few months he says the rain and thunderstorms damaged the street again.

Busakwe continues to explain that despite the fact that many streets have been fixed in KwaThema and were completed in December last year, the damaged piece is still waiting for the officials from the department of roads and transport to come and see if they can identify the root of the problem.

“People have different views regarding the street, others believing that lightning and heavy rains are not the cause but that the place needs traditional healers to cleanse it,” says Busakwe.

Phindile Mbatha, one of the affected residents confirms that the cars struggle to get inside her yard as the result of the broken street.

She says fearing for their children’s lives they tried to fix the problem on their own but that did not help.

“We have put our hope to the government to help fix our street,” says Mbatha.
