R5 000 bail for a police officer
The police officer who allegedly shot and killed a man at Bluegum View in Duduza on January 18 was granted bail on Friday.

After several appearances for bail applications, the suspect was granted R5 000 bail in the Nigel Magistrates Court C.
Defending his client in court and trying to convince magistrate Gerhard Taljaad to grant the suspect bail, Jean-Pierre Busseau Okes said there is no evidence that the suspect might flee the country or not attend his next appearance.
Before granting bail to the suspect, magistrate Taljaard explained that because the suspect is faced with a serious case, R5 000 is an appropriate amount to bail him out.
The conditions of the suspect’s bail were clearly read to him.
These conditions included that he should not change his residential address and that he is not allowed to enter the Nigel District, including Duduza, unless he is attending his court case.
The case was postponed until February 28.
