Police assaulted by community members

Police officers who were on duty were assaulted by angry community members on Thursday in Tsakane.

Tsakane police spokesman, Captain Petros Mabuza says a 9-year-old girl was accidentally hit by a police van around 4.40pm on Ndabezitha Street.

He says when the accident happened, the police were rushing to a mob justice crime scene in Langaville. He says seeing that the child was badly injured, residents who were on the scene assaulted the two police officers. “We will not tolerate such behaviour from our community,” says Mabuza.

He appeals for a healthy and good relationship between the police and the community to be able to work together in fighting against crime. Mabuza also says that the Tsakane police wish the little girl a speedy recovery.
