Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters are alleged to have “threatened” the principal of Duduza Primary School.
This was as a result of the School Governing Body (SGB) refusing to grant them (EFF) permission to use the school for their meeting on March 7.
When the principal was approached for comment, he declined to speak on the matter and directed the African Reporter to the education department.
Gauteng Department of Education spokespersman Phumla Sekhonyane said, “The South African Schools Act prohibits the use of schools for political activities during school hours, as well as the display of party political material on school premises unless it is related to the school curriculum.”
Phumla says the SGB has the responsibility of managing the school’s infrastructure and urged “political parties to respect the law and the decision of the SGB.”
In a statement, Julius uMmeli ka-Mdluli, head of communications for the Regional Command Team of the EFF Ekurhuleni says the EFF wishes “to distance itself from the unfortunate conduct and unbecoming behaviour of the individuals who bypassed all the formation of EFF structures and went to ask for a class in which to hold their meetings in a very disappointing manner.”
Julius said the implicated members have been sent “suspension letters and will know their fate in political career after the hype of the elections.
Julius added, “The EFF wishes to apologise to the principal and the governing body of the school, and we have instructed our fighters in the area to go and apologise personally to the principal about the incident.”
