A message of road safety and arriving alive was spread to the residents of Kwatsaduza on Saturday.
The campaign which was supported by SAPS and EMPD started in Duduza rank, before moving to Extension 15 rank and ended at Tsakane mall.
The event was organised by Tsakane based organisation Twin Plugs, and according to the secretary Derrick Mathebula, they hope to contribute in the reduction of the road death toll during the Easter holidays.
“The aim is to engage both taxi drivers and passengers and listen to their challenges, as well as form a relationship between the police, EMPD and drivers,” said Derrick.
Speaking for the EMPD, Nhlanhla Dube told the crowed that both pedestrians and drivers should lookout for each other, to avoid accidents.
Pedestrians where reminded about the importance of wearing visible clothing at night, and not driving or walking while under the influence of alcohol.
“We are going to be in every corner working this Easter holidays, let’s all enjoy the Easter weekend safely,” added Dube.
Sergeant Lebohang Ramaesa, of the Social Crime Prevention, delivered the police’s message.
He identified Black road, 12th road and Vlakfontein road as being responsible for many accidents they respond to, and pleaded with people to be careful when using these roads.
He especially cautioned residents not to leave their homes unattended while they go on holiday.
“The age old trick of leaving the lights on doesn’t work because criminals are aware of it, make sure you leave someone to look after your home,” advised Lebohang.
