A hundred old people at the KwaThema Old Age Centre will not be the victims of winter this year.
The donation of 100 winter hats by Phelang LSEN to the old people will help them keep warm this winter.
The atmosphere was filled with the excitement at the centre when the senior citizens received their new hats that were designed by needlework learners at Phelang.
Speaking on behalf of the school, needlework educator, Maureen Mhlanga said the donation is part of the school’s social responsibility.
She promised that the school will continue to be involved in the community by helping residents in any way that they can.
On the day not only were the hats donated, but the school also ensured that the old people do not only get warm outside but they get the warmth inside.
The school also donated dozens of scones for the old people to have with their tea and coffee. Molly Luthuli (76) thanked the school for the donation.
“My hat will keep me warm next Monday when I go to fetch my pension money,” said an excited Luthuli.
Adding that being the victim to cold weather is yesterday’s story for her.
She encouraged the needlework learners at Phelang to follow a career in fashion designing as she believes that they can do more than just designing hats for them.
