‘I was not part of it’

Moses Ngwenya said the ward councillor is accusing him of something that he knows nothing about.

Ngwenya, a KwaThema Extension Three resident said he knows nothing and was not part of the group of angry residents who marched to councillor Wilson Busakwe’s home on July 17 complaining about the danger posed by an electricity transformer in that area.

He said the only thing that he knows is that an old lady who lives next to the transformer, which caught fire on the afternoon of July 17, informed him about the incident of a transformer that was on fire.

“I called the metro’s electricity department to report the matter,” said Ngwenya.

He added that he was surprised to receive a letter from the KwaThema police on Saturday summoning him to report to the police station.

“I went to the police station on Tuesday not having a clue why I was called in to the station,” said a shocked Ngwenya.

He said on his arrival at the police station, he was even more shocked after he was told that Clr Busakwe has opened a case of intimidation against him.

“I did not know what to say as I was not part of the group that marched to Busakwe’s home,” he said

He said it was explained to him that Busakwe opened a case against him, accusing him of being the leader of the group that attempted to attack the ward councillor and his family in their home.

Busakwe confirmed he has opened a case against Ngwenya, saying his family was lucky that their yard’s gates were locked when the crowd arrived at their home.

“They tried to push the gate to open so that they could get inside but their attempt did not succeed,” said Busakwe.

KwaThema police spokesman Captain Mandla Phori confirmed a case of intimidation has been opened.
