Metro reports back to the community
Yesterday MMC Clr Queen Duba was in Duduza to address residents during the Mayoral Imbizo held at Monty Motlung Hall.
Residents from different areas in and around Duduza were transported by bus to Monty Motloung Hall to hear about the development that the metro has delivered to their areas.
Duba talked about the installation of the six new high masts lights in wards 84, 87, 86 and 98 and the new traffic lights at corner Nala and Mandela streets.
She said 10 chemical toilets were removed and replaced with 33 water borne container like toilets where two caretakers have been employed to assist with the cleaning of these toilets.
“In ward 84 speed humps were constructed at Mashinini and Ntutu streets and the upgrading of roads is complete,” said Duba.
Talking about sport, Duba mentioned the construction of the Duduza Multi purpose centre stadium and fencing and construction of the Duduza Reconciliation Park.
She mentioned a few challenges that residents of Duduza have been faced with such as the shortage of the pedestrian bridges and the pothole repairs and roads rehabilitation.
However Duba was proud to inform residents that a new contractor has been appointed to fix the potholes.
Given a chance to ask questions , David Mokoena from ward 87 said the residents in that township have lost hope of having a community swimming pool.
“Our children die of drowning in dams because they have nowhere to go if they want to learn swimming,” said Mokoena.
He said after 20 years of democracy, roads at Zamani section are still not tarred.
He also appealed to the metro to attend to the challenge faced by many families if they want to bury their relatives at the Vlakfontein cemetery.
“There is water coming from underground the graves and that forces residents to first take out water from the graves before putting in the coffins,” he said.
One of the questions asked by residents was about the reconstruction of the houses that were destroyed by the tornado in Masechaba a few years ago.
Responding to the problems raised by residents, Duba said the metro is busy negotiating with the companies to help in the reconstruction of the houses destroyed by tornado.
“The metro depends on donations from different companies to help ensure that these houses are rebuilt,” said Duba.
About the bad state of the roads in the township, she assured the residents that the department of roads plans to better these roads by putting crush stones on top which will allow residents easy access to their public roads.
The pieces of papers were issued to residents on which to write down their problems and express their views.
