Reedville empowers youth

Children from the ages of seven to 16 marched around the community of Reedville with their parents' outfits.

November 5 was Guy Fawks day.

The aim of the campaign was also to encourage the youth in Reedville to start now in becoming entrepreneurs in the community, to alleviate poverty and unemployment.

Lucky Molahlehi, event organiser who is also a shop owner, invited the youth of Reedville for a community lunch to raise awareness against drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, HIV/Aids, child abuse, and primary and high school drop-outs.

Molahlehi explained that residents are tired of children using drugs such as nyaope and falling pregnant at a young age.

He believes that many youngsters get infected with HIV at an early stage as a result of their lifestyles.

Eleven-year-old Mbali Mahlangu says the event helped the young people to be independent when they are older.

Nthabiseng Kgapola (11) said the campaign helped them to think like older people.
