Ekurhuleni Carnival decorates the streets of Kwatsaduza
Ekurhuleni hosted its 10th annual carnival on Saturday, from Langaville Secondary School in Tsakheane to Bulithando Park in KwaThema.
Rhythmic dances and blocking colours livened up the streets of Kwatsaduza when the different troupes paraded.
According to Ekurhuleni spokesman,Themba Gadebe the main objective of the carnival was to support local entrepreneurs in the art industry.
He says not even the dry scorching weather was able to deter the troupes’ high spirits as they danced and sang joyously throughout the 7km distance.
Gadebe says the event culminated with various artists of different genres taking turns on stage entertaining the audience with dance and
song.
Performing artist and chief choreographer Ignition from Tender Loving Kids (TLK), says the carnival is a brilliant platform to get exposure as an artist.
He says it is an opportunity to make money as a lot of young people make a living through the arts.
“The reason why the City of Ekurhuleni continues to support the carnival is solely because we view it as an investment in what could be someone’s career tomorrow,”said Zeni Tshongweni member of mayoral committee for sport, recreation, arts and culture.
