Study to be a computer facilitator

"After studying a three-month computer course, one can become a computer facilitator,"says Bonginkosi Mahlangu.

Bonginkosi (21) from Tsakane is a computer facilitator at Ithemba Foundation in Tsakane.

After completing his matric, Bonginkosi studied a three-month computer course at Ithemba Foundation.

He started his facilitating career a year ago.

Bonginkosi says to become a computer facilitator, you can study a three-year diploma in computer science or IT (information technology), at university or any other recognised institution.

He explains there are no specific subjects required for Grade 12 in order to qualify to study the course.

“The requirement is to have a love for computers, be willing to study hard and learn more about how to fix computers,” says Bonginkosi.

In his daily work, he teaches the following subjects to his 48 students:

n. Microsoft Word

n. Excel

n. Powerpoint

n. Publisher

n. Access

n. Internet and email

He says his job also includes teaching basic computer skills such as typing.

Bonginkosi encourages the youth to study computer courses as he believes the world now needs people who can use computers and the internet.

He says after completing a computer course, one can find employment as a clerk or administrator at any government or private institution.
