Motsepe family still struggles

Duduza - Life is still a struggle for the Motsepe family in Duduza.

The family was left homeless in October when their house was allegedly damaged by strong winds.

Home owner Nomsombuluko Motsepe (41), who is a single mother to two children, says her family’s lives have been a misery since their home was damaged.

She claims the RDP house had just been extended and upgraded to eight rooms with a single garage, when its roof was blown off.

Motsepe says the wind not only destroyed the house, but also left the family without food and clothes.

They depend on relatives and neighbours to survive.

To ensure that her family returns to their home, Motsepe, who relies on a small monthly salary, secured a loan to rebuild three of the eight rooms.

“The loan was not enough to rebuild the house, but has helped us have a roof over our heads,” she says.

“We live in fear that the three rooms that were rebuilt will be damaged by the wind again, because the roof and walls shake when the wind blows,” she says.
