Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says more than 60 cases of rape reported to the Springs, Duduza and KwaThema police stations have been withdrawn over the past few months.
He says in most cases, the charges are withdrawn by victims who are related to the perpetrators.
“It is alleged that many victims withdraw cases after they have been promised cash by the suspects,” says Ramphora.
He appeals to rape victims to let the law take its course and allow rapists to be arrested, prosecuted and given sentences they deserve.
