Disabled man faces transport challenge

Tsakane - According to Mandla Mabuza (41), it is a hassle to get public transportation when you are living with a disability.

The resident of Langaville Extension Five, who was born with cerebral palsy, claims that drivers pass him by when he signs for a taxi.

He claims it is a struggle for him to commute from one place to another because he waits for a while before he gets a taxi driver who is willing to transport him.

This has resulted in him using his wheelchair as a mode of transportation around his community.

“I struggle to get to the mall and nearby shops, and it’s inconvenient when it’s raining or too sunny,” says Mabuza.

His other challenge is the many potholes he has to avoid when he has to navigate in the streets and the fact that there not many pavements he can utilise.

“Potholes make it difficult for me to move in the streets and motorists get impatient with me,” says Mabuza.

He is concerned about his safety, especially in the evenings when taxis are in a rush.

All Mabuza wants is to be able to access transportation, like other members of the community.
